The Supportive Living Program strives to provide support that enables persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own homes in the community, and have maximum choice and control over their lives.
Play board and card games, go fishing, cook a meal, run a errand, be a friend, go to a movie or out to eat, discuss sports, politics, or religion.
If you enjoy any of these activities, the Supportive Living Program (SLP) has a wonderful volunteer opportunity for you. SLP provides services to individuals with traumatic brain injury. What is a traumatic brain injury? Many brain injuries are the result of motor vehicle accidents. Whatever the cause, a brain injury can often result in enduring physical, emotional, intellectual, and social changes. Survivors of brain injury often must "start all over". A few hours of your time can be instrumental in helping to rebuild their life. Adult volunteers only.
An example of a volunteer opportunity: Mary is a 36-year-old woman with a brain injury. She lives on the far west side of Madison. She is in need of someone to provide transportation to her swimming class (also on west side) on Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons. Also, Mary would enjoy a companion to go out to lunch with or help with errands. Call 608-833-4800 for more information.
